President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), PT Usha, made a case on Wednesday for yoga’s inclusion in the Asian Games schedule as the nation looks to increase the activity’s appeal. The great athlete pleaded with the sports community on the continent to incorporate yoga into the Asian Games schedule in a letter addressed to Raja Randhir Singh, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). “On June 21, the globe observed the tenth International Day of Yoga, and the reaction to its global celebration has been tremendous. People have embraced yoga and reaped its advantages all throughout the world,” Usha wrote in the letter.

She stated that it was crucial that India take the lead in promoting the inclusion of yoga in the largest sporting events.

“I am confident that as the spiritual home of yoga and as Vishwaguru, India can campaign for the inclusion of the sport in the Asian Games and eventually the Olympic Games as well,” she stated.

She brought up the fact that, in advance of the Olympics next month, visitors to the famed Louvre Museum in Paris would have the opportunity to participate in yoga sessions with experts.

The IOA president went on to say that Mansukh Mandaviya, the union sports minister, was really supportive and grateful of the proposal to argue for yoga’s inclusion in the Asian Games.

“He informed me that he believed the sport’s acceptance in the Asian Games would be the first step toward its Olympic debut. We require these platforms to feature our native sport, Usha stated.
