The lone warm-up game for India’s 2024 T20 World Cup did not feature Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Ian Bishop, one of the most well-known figures in cricket, has expressed his support for Yashasvi Jaiswal to lead India’s batting in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Bishop batted for the Rajasthan Royals opener, despite rumors that Jaiswal might be benched in favor of the more seasoned pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Sanju Samson opened in place of Virat Kohli during India’s a warm-up match against Bangladesh; the 22-year-old was not used.
“His (Jaiswal’s) performance in the IPL has raised some concerns. However, I want Jaiswal at the top if you believe his form is good enough to be on the team, especially since he is left-handed,” Bishop stated.
In the 2024 Indian Premier League, Jaiswal amassed 435 runs, over 200 fewer than in the previous season.
“Jaiswal adds talent when he is in form and left-handedness if he is in that starting eleven. Bishop thought, “So you’re asking the bowling opposition different questions.”
In addition, Bishop’s opinion is different from that of Indian icon Sunil Gavaskar, who ranked Jaiswal third in his playing XI. Bishop did insist, though, that he preferred Virat Kohli to begin the batting.
“I like Virat Kohli at the top, I have said that for the last couple of years, not just for this tournament,” stated Bishop.
Because Rishabh Pant is left-handed, Bishop chose him over Sanju Samson to be the wicket-keeper batsman, emphasizing diversity in the batting order.

In 2024, Samson experienced the finest Indian Premier League of his career, scoring more over 500 runs in a season for the first time and helping the Rajasthan Royals secure a third-place finish. But Pant returned from his tragic road accident as if he had never left, scoring 446 runs at a strike rate better than Samson’s for the Delhi Capitals.
On June 5, India takes on Ireland in New York to start their quest for a second T20 World Cup championship.
