Men’s golfers Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar have qualified for the Paris Olympics 

Shubhankar is currently the world’s number one Indian professional golfer and was Asia’s number one player in 2018. 

India’s number one golfer Shubhankar Sharma and his partner Gaganjeet Bhullar have qualified for the Paris Olympics and will head to the country’s best golf course in the French capital Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in August. The Shubhankar course in Paris was approved after the International Golf Federation (IGF) announced 60 men’s and women’s Olympic qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Golf Games scheduled to be held from 1-4 August 2024.Shubhankar, official World Golf Ranking 222, has qualified for the 48th Olympic Games, paving the way for the Chandigarh boy’s maiden Games. 

He will be joined by Gaganjeet Bhullar, who has qualified for the 54th Olympic Games and will also be making his Olympic debut. Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will represent India in the women’s competition. 

Shubhankar, a 27-year-old Indian who recently signed as the brand ambassador of Roundglass Sports, has won the DP World Tour (formerly the Tour of Europe) twice and has eight professional titles to his name. He will next appear at the KLM Open in Amsterdam and the Italian Open this month, both part of the DP World Tour. 

Sharing his thoughts about that moment, Shubhankar Sharma said, “It is a privilege and an honor to represent India in the Olympics. It is a dream come true. I have been planning for this day for a while and planning my career in Europe.” We have a very good and experienced team consisting of Gaganjeet, Aditi, Diksha and me.

“We have depth and experience behind us. They’re all playing great golf with us on tour, which is a good sign. If Olympic week goes the other way, all kinds of medals are possible for the men’s and women’s teams. Personally, my game is going in the right direction and I have the key to perform.” 

Shubhankar is a top talent who turned professional in 2013 at the age of 16. He is currently the number one Indian professional golfer in the world and the number one player in Asia in 2018. Shubhankar has had status in the European and Asian Tours since 2018. 

Shubhankar has competed multiple times in all Golf Majors and achieved the best score by an Indian in The Open, the world’s oldest golf championship. He finished in a tie for eighth place at the 151 Open in Liverpool last year. Also, two European titles were the Joburg Open and the Maybank Championship. Six more titles went to the inaugural Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). 

Shubhankar also received the Arjuna Award, the second highest award given to an athlete in the country, in 2018. He also received the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award in 2018 and was also the recipient of the Asian Tour of the Year award that year.
