At the present International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Munich, Germany, Sarabjot Singh opened India’s account by winning the gold medal in the men’s 10m Air Pistol competition. In the eight-man final, the 22-year-old Indian shot 242.7, 0.2 points ahead of his closest rival, Bu Shuaihang of China.

Bronze went to Robin Walter of Germany. Sarabjot had shot a perfect 588 earlier on Wednesday to advance to the final. In addition to Bu and Robin, the final lineup included Yusuf Dikec of Turkey, a four-time Olympian, and Bowen Zhang, the current Chinese World Champion.

Following his debut gold in Bhopal last year, the 22-year-old Indian shooter produced a respectable pillar-to-post triumph for his second individual ISSF World Cup medal in the given conditions.

The young Indian got off to the best possible start, hitting three straight high 10s in his opening five single shots to seize the lead. He kept up his steady shooting, never behind until the fourteenth single shot, when Walter finally closed the distance.

Walter wilted with an 8.6, but a clutch 10.8 on his 15th seemed to have settled the match. Zhang withdrew in the fifth place, and Walter won bronze by defeating Yusuf Dikec of Turkey, an Olympian four times.

With two strokes remaining, Sarabjot and Bu were separated by 1.4 points. Bu was now enjoying the chase as Sarabjot was under pressure. The Indian shooter ultimately did well to hold on for a victory that gave him more confidence.
