Rubina Francis secured a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, delivering an impressive score of 211.1 in the final round on Saturday.

The gold medal went to Sareh Javanmardi from the Islamic Republic of Iran, who dominated the event with a score of 236.8. Aysel Ozgan of Turkiye finished in second place, earning the silver medal with a score of 231.1.

After 20 shots, Rubina was already assured a podium finish and was positioned second with a score of 193. However, in the final two shots, her scores of 9.2 and 8.9 allowed Ozgan to surpass her and claim the silver medal.

Rubina’s performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympics marks a notable improvement from her previous appearance at Tokyo 2020. At the Tokyo Games, she reached the final but finished seventh with a score of 128.5.

In Paris, Rubina showed her growth and resilience, posting a qualification round score of 556 to secure the sixth position, which earned her a spot in the final.

Rubina’s journey to the Paris Paralympics had been marked by significant achievements. In 2023, she won a silver medal at the Para World Championships held in Lima, Peru, followed by a bronze at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.

These victories set the stage for her success in Paris, where she added another prestigious accolade to her growing list of accomplishments.

In the SH1 classification, athletes have impairments affecting one arm and/or legs, such as amputations or spinal cord injuries.

They are permitted to shoot either from a standing position or seated, using a wheelchair or chair depending on their needs.
