Rahul-Dravid

After the tournament, Rahul Dravid’s contract will expire, and BCCI is currently looking for a new head coach.

On Wednesday, India will start their T20 World Cup campaign to snap their 11-year ICC title drought. The Rohit Sharma-led team plays their opening game of the season at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York against Ireland.

Head coach Rahul Dravid, who is quitting the position following the tournament, emphasized the team’s impressive results despite India’s recent troubles in the knockout stages. Nonetheless, the departing India head coach acknowledged the team’s inability to pass the last obstacle.

To be completely honest with you, I believe that we have performed admirably throughout these World Cup competitions. We have been incredibly constant when it comes to our consistency. Obviously qualifying for Australia’s semi-final in 2022.

The World Test Championship is a little different in that it consists of an entire cycle rather than just one competition, and qualifying for the final requires performing exceptionally well throughout that cycle. Then there was the 50-over World Cup, in which we advanced to the final after a fantastic run.

Thus, we’ve been right up there with arguably of the finest teams in these major events in terms of our consistency and caliber of cricket played,” Dravid stated at the press conference held prior to kickoff.

Dravid also emphasised that he wants his players to back their strengths and win matches, instead of thinking about the trophy jinx.

“Yes, it appears that we haven’t been able to cross the finish line in the elimination round. Therefore, it’s likely that we were unable to execute at the last stage. Thus, let’s hope that we play well enough to regain those positions and then perhaps perform well enough on the day to cross the finish line.

The most crucial thing is to truly consider obtaining those rankings when you begin these competitions rather than worrying about it (the trophy jinx). All you can do as a group and as a team is to put yourselves in those situations where you are vying for greatness,” he continued.

After the tournament, Dravid’s contract will expire, and BCCI is currently looking for a new head coach. If the stories are to be believed, former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir is winning the competition to become the new head coach.
