Indian Olympics debutant Nishant Dev has made an impressive entry into the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
He triumphed over Jose Gabriel Rodriguez Tenorio of Ecuador in a hard-fought 3-2 victory in the men’s 71 kg boxing category, marking his first win in this prestigious event.
Now, Nishant is just one victory away from the medal rounds, showcasing his potential to bring home a coveted Olympic medal.
In his Olympic debut, Nishant Dev dominated the match with a relentless offensive strategy, landing powerful punches that kept Tenorio on the defensive.
He convincingly won the first two rounds with identical scores of 4-1. Although the final round was more closely contested, Nishant emerged victorious with a final score of 3-2, securing his place in the quarterfinals.

He claimed the national champion title in 2021 and 2022, followed by a bronze medal in the lightweight division at the 2023 World Championship.

With his victory in the round of 16, Nishant Dev has become the first Indian boxer in the men’s category to reach the quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics.
He will be facing Mexico’s Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez in the quarterfinals which will be fought on August 4.
Lovlina Borgohain, the Olympics bronze medallist also won her Round of 16 bout and qualified for the quarterfinals. She will be facing China’s Li Qian in the quarterfinals which will also be fought on August 4.
