Star shuttler Lakshya Sen of India lost in the men’s singles quarterfinals in Jakarta on Friday, bringing the Indonesia Open Super 1000 competition to a conclusion. Sen, who is rated 14th in the world, gave it his all in an hour and a minute of play, but ultimately lost to world no. 5 Anders Antonsen of Denmark 22-24, 18-21.

With the Indian, Antonsen now has a 3-2 head-to-head record. The opening game was a see-saw fight between Sen and Antonsen, which the Dane won in thirty-two minutes.

Before Antonsen got the final laugh, there was nothing separating the two shuttlers until the very end.

Antonsen jumped off to an early 4-0 lead, but Sen rallied to tie the game at 5-5 and eventually increase it to 15-11.

To tie the score at 16–16, the Dane exploited his reach and prolonged rallies to wear out Sen. However, he was not to be left behind.

Before the Indian gave up and allowed his opponent to win the opening game, the two players battled tooth and claw for 22 points.

In the second game, Sen and Antonsen maintained their neck-and-neck battle, with neither shuttler willing to give an inch to the other.

Sen and Antonsen both gave it their all until the final eighteen points of the second game, refusing to give the other the upper hand.

However, Sen finally lost his composure and made a few careless mistakes, while Antonsen maintained his composure to score three straight points and win the match.

In the semifinals, Antonsen will take on Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, ranked eighth.
