Lakshya Sen to lead India Challenge in Canada to open in 2024

Ace shuttler Lakshya Sen is all set to challenge India in the 2024 Canadian Open badminton tournament scheduled to be held on Tuesday. The Commonwealth gold medalist will be looking to defend her crown in the near future. He won the title last year by beating Asian Games gold medalist Li Shifeng of the Republic of China in straight matches. Lakshya has secured the fourth spot in the next round and will begin his campaign against players in the qualifiers. 

Along with the 22-year-old actor, Priyanshu Rajawat, Kiran George and Ayush Shetty will also play the male lead. 

Rajawat, currently number 40 in the world, reached the quarter-finals of the US Open last month. In the women’s category, Malvika Bansod will try to further her win at the US Open. Her campaign ended in the semi-finals when Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira defeated her. Besides Malvika, Tanya Hemanth and Anupama Upadhyaya will also be seen in the female counterparts. 

With world number 3 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty missing his second men’s tournament, India’s campaign will be led by world number 43 Krishna Prasad Garaga and Sai Pratheek K. 

World number 23 Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will lead India’s campaign in women’s doubles. Treesa and Gayatri reached the quarter-finals of the US Open as seventh seeds. They lost in the first round of the Canadian Open. 

In mixed doubles, Indian duo Kona Tarun-Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli and Rohan Kapoor-Gadde Ruthvika Shivani will meet in the first round. 

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and World Cup bronze medalist HS Prannoy will not participate in the Canadian Open.
