India Aims for Historic Performance at BWF World Junior Championships 2025

Backed by a powerful squad featuring experienced players like Tanvi Sharma and Unnati Hooda, alongside current and former Junior World No. 1s, host nation India is poised for a potentially historic performance at the BWF World Junior Badminton Championships 2025. The prestigious tournament is kicking off at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati on October 6th.

Returning to India after a gap of 17 years, this championship will be contested in two phases. The initial phase will see 36 teams vying for the Suhandinata Cup (Mixed Team Event), followed by the Eye-Level Cup for the individual events in the second phase. This tournament brings together the world’s best young talent, and India’s dynamic youth team is fully geared up to clinch medals this time.

Let’s shine a light on five Indian players who are expected to dazzle on this global stage:

🏸 1. Tanvi Sharma

At just 16 years old, Tanvi Sharma has established herself as one of India’s brightest young prospects. The Punjab native made history by becoming the youngest Indian player to reach the final of the US Open 2025 (BWF Super 300), finishing as the runner-up.

Furthermore, she secured a medal at the Badminton Asia Junior Championship—only the third Indian girl to achieve this feat after P.V. Sindhu. Learning the sport from her mother (who is a coach herself), Tanvi enters this tournament as the Junior World No. 1 and the top seed in Girls’ Singles.

🏸 2. Bhavya Jain

Bhavya Jain recently demonstrated his international consistency by finishing as the runner-up in the Boys’ Doubles category at the Kotak India International Series 2025.

Bhavya possesses an excellent combination of quick drive shots, precise net play, and strategic understanding. These attributes make him one of India’s top medal hopefuls in the Doubles category.

🏸 3. Viswa Tej Gobburu

Viswa Tej Gobburu is a formidable Boys’ Doubles specialist who previously held the Junior World No. 1ranking.

He is known for his aggressive style of play, explosive jump smashes, and mental composure. Viswa Tej won a silver medal at the Estonian International 2025 and clinched back-to-back titles at the Pune Junior Grand Prix (2023 and 2024). Partnering with Bhargav Ram Arigela, Viswa Tej forms a strong pair that is a fierce contender for a medal in this tournament.

🏸 4. Ronak Chauhan

Ronak Chauhan (18) hails from Chhattisgarh and is one of India’s most talented Boys’ Singles players.

His strengths include rapid court movement, an attacking game, and athletic agility. Ronak won consecutive titles at the India Junior International Series in 2024 and 2025 and was the runner-up at the All India Senior Ranking Tournament 2025 (Pune)—indicating his capability to compete at the senior level as well. Currently ranked 14th in the BWF Junior World Rankings, Ronak’s strategic acumen, mental fortitude, and problem-solving skills make him India’s biggest hope in the Boys’ Singles category this time around.

🇮🇳 Conclusion:

This young Indian team is brimming with experience, passion, and confidence. As the BWF World Junior Championships 2025 kicks off in Guwahati, all eyes will be on these Indian stars—who have the potential to bring glory to India at the World and Olympic levels in the future.
